Sensoan and Lassila & Tikanoja developed the IoT solution to facilitate cleaning and maintenance of the everyday life of the Salo IoT Campus.
On Salo IoT Campus, there is nearly 90 000 square meters worth of space to maintain clean. Moreover, some premises are used significantly more than others. Receiving real-time information on, for instance, the utilization rate of lavatories, would significantly help to assign cleaning and maintenance resources to the right places.
The idea came to Lassila & Tikanoja, the company in charge of cleaning and maintenance services on campus. Sensoan Oy, one of the first companies founded on Salo IoT Campus, was up to the task. Sensoan specializes in making objects and spaces smart with the use of low-energy sensors and adaptive wireless networks. From the point of view of the campus’ cleaning services, this means that Lassila & Tikanoja staff members carry a tablet in their cleaning carts that tells them, for instance, how many times each bathroom door is opened.
“Salo IoT Campus is an excellent platform for us to try out new technologies, because the IoT expertise can be found under the same roof,” says Timo Luiro, Sales Manager at Lassila & Tikanoja.
Jukka Kontulainen from Sensoan says that the solution will first be tested in the premises occupied by Turku University of Applied Sciences. According to Kontulainen, who oversees Sensoan’s business development, the project supports the building of a scalable product solution that can be applied to solve various problems in wide-scale settings.
“Our development platform and sensor selection allow us to develop smart solutions to a wide range of purposes, from managing living spaces to tracking logistics,” says Kontulainen.
